Lanterna Edizioni
Logo and Visual Identity Project - 2025
This is a conceptual branding project for Lanterna Editrice, a fictional publishing house whose name evokes the idea of light, guidance, and discovery through books.
The final mark is a minimal, versatile icon where a nib glows inside a classic lantern, all sitting atop an open book. The design balances symbolism with clarity, and blends traditional editorial values with a contemporary aesthetic.
As part of the visual identity, I also imagined a potential design system for the publishing house's editorial lines. Starting from the logo, I explored various layout structures — from covers to spines — tailored to different kinds of book collections: mystery novels, classics, hardcover editions, booklets, essays, and manuals. Each series carries its own tone, typographic treatment, and color palette, while remaining visually consistent within the overall identity of Lanterna Editrice.

The development of the logo began with an intuitive concept: combining a flame and a book — symbols of knowledge, imagination, and the spark of ideas. The flame, originally thought to emerge from the pages of a book, was intended to visually convey the transformative power of reading. However, as I explored the shapes and contours of an old lantern — the object at the heart of the brand name — an unexpected connection emerged. The inner structure of the lantern naturally echoed the silhouette of a fountain pen nib. This discovery led to a shift in direction: the logo evolved into a visual synthesis where the lantern itself becomes the vessel of writing, and the pen becomes the source of light.
